The Executive Director’s Award is the highest level of recognition offered by GWRRA to Members or those in the community.  We will strive to grant awards for individuals/couples whose achievements are ongoing in nature.  One-time Good Samaritan acts will be considered for the Executive Director’s Award if they seem to go beyond the efforts that one would expect of any GWRRA Member.

General Outline is as follows:

· Nominations must come from someone other than the nominee or his/her immediate family.

· All nominations must be submitted in writing to the attention of the President or Executive Director of GWRRA via e-mail or standard mail.

· Executive Director’s Award may be granted without an official nomination based on other correspondence, such as a letter to Wing World or a story found in a chapter newsletter.

· Executive Director’s Awards may take up to 30 days for the award to be granted.

· In order to avoid denying anyone’s nomination, a certificate of achievement or recognition may be sent to those nominations that do no meet the criteria for the Executive Director’s Award.

The person selected to receive the Executive Director’s Award this year is a very unique person.  He is a very warm and giving person, he is a very helpful person, he is a very out-going person, and he is a very good friend.  He is a leader, a helper, and he gives a gift that is more valuable than money, he gives his time and so much more.  He gives 100% of himself in all of his endeavors.  If anyone is having a problem with whatever, whether it is with their motorcycle or anything else, this person is the first one to step up and ask if there is something he can do to help.

The individual selected to receive the Executive Directors Award this year, is a leader in the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.  He serves the Maryland District as District Webmaster, District Trainer, Horizons Instructor, Maryland Chapter A Webmaster and Ride Coordinator, he holds a Level 4 in the Rider Education program and is a Road Captain, he has served as an instructor for several years for the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) classes for the Maryland District events as well as the New Jersey State and Virginia State rallies and other regional events.  He has unselfishly given of his own time to go to people’s homes to help set-up and teach individuals on the use of their GPSs.

Prior to the death of our previous Maryland District Director, (Charlie Gallagher) two of our distinguished GWRRA members would visit Charlie and take him to breakfast or dinner.  They did indeed show they cared about Charlie and what he stood for.  After Charlie’s death, this individual stepped up and helped the family with some of the funeral details that might not have been possible without his help.  The family wanted Charlie’s motorcycle by his casket in the funeral home and this person went to great lengths to make that happen.

Our person of the hour is a Maryland Volunteer Firefighter, an Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic.  This individual spends countless hours away from his wife and home to serve his community, on holidays, weekends, while everyone is at home with their families.  This individual serves his community by attending to victims of automobile accidents, house fires, victims of crime and others misfortunes.  We cannot begin to imagine the countless hours this person has spent in class after class to get to where he is today, just to serve the people in the community as a volunteer.

The wife of this person also deserves this award for all the lonely nights she spends at home without her husband at home by her side.

Our selected person to receive the Executive Directors Award is a good friend and is very near and dear to our hearts:

 Mr. Sidney Spunt.
